Collagen: Middleware for Building Mixed-Initiative Problem Solving Assistants
نویسندگان
چکیده
Collagenis Java middleware for building mixedinitiative problem solving assistants, based on Grosz and Sidner’s SharedPlan theory of collaborative discourse. The implementation includes a discourse state representation, comprised of a focus stack and a plan tree, as well as algorithms for discourse interpretation (including plan recognition) and discourse generation. Collagen has been used to build over a dozen research prototype systems.

A Mixed-Initiative System for Building Mixed-Initiative Systems
Mixed-initiative assistants can be applied to a variety of information-rich problem-solving tasks on the Web, such as travel planning and equipment purchasing tasks. A mixed-initiative environment for such tasks can greatly improve the decision making environment for a user if the application is designed to meet the needs of a user. However, each user has different needs and preferences, making...

agents, assuming they work independently, or they can achieve the same goals more effectively. Mixed initiative assumes an efficient, natural interleaving of contributions by users and automated agents that is determined by their relative knowledge and skills and the problem-solving context, rather than by fixed roles, enabling each participant to contribute what it does best, at the appropriat...

Different mixed-initiative problem-solving assistants have been implemented at EADS, but the requirements made on this type of application have evolved with the surrounding environment (collaborative work, distributed and evolving organizations). The focus of research work on this topic is now less on the sharing/control of the initiative and reasoning process and more on intelligent user integ...

Mixed-initiative assistants are agents that interact seamlessly with humans to extend their problem solving capabilities or provide new capabilities. Developing such agents requires the synergistic integration of many areas of AI, including knowledge representation, problem solving and planning, knowledge acquisition and learning, multi-agent systems, discourse theory, and human-computer intera...
